Learn the vital steps you should undertake in order to choose and join a political party

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Commitment to some ideals and an open mind to learning
  1. Step 1

Identify your goal. If you wish to achieve anything, it is important to have a clear goal. In terms of politics, that needs to be something
that is realistic, meaningful, measurable and in terms of outcomes rather than in terms of titles.

  2. Step 2

Identify the political parties. In most cases, you will already be aware of which political parties operate in the area in which you are interested. This will be the area both in geographical terms and in policy terms.

  3. Step 3

Research the party. Check out the web sites for the actual party itself and read what it has about fees, meeting places, types of involvements required. If you don't already know, find out who are the key candidates for the political party. Research their activities and with which particular policy areas or organizations they are aligned. In particular, find out what groupings or factions exist within the party. Arrange to meet various people in different roles within the party to get a better understanding of who is who and which people belong to which groups.

  4. Step 4

Decide and join. Keep in mind what your aim is and then work out which party is most likely to assist you to achieve your goal. Join the party by obtaining any necessary endorsements and completing the relevant application forms and fee payment.

  5. Step 5

Focus. Focus on your reason for joining and enjoy the journey.

Tips & Warnings
  • Get involved in politics for what you can do for society - not for what you can get out of it.
  • Politics is high risk. The rewards may be high but there are often downfalls.
