Things You'll Need:
- Willpower
- Motivation!
-
Step 1
The first step is to think about your goals and understand why you want to start running again. Healthier lifestyle, improving self image and self esteem, and confidence, are all excellent motivators. Keep them in mind, and they will help you with running from start to finish.
-
Step 2
Before you start running again, try to find others to join your running activity. Friends or family can be excellent motivators. Also, talking while you run can encourage regular and controlled breathing. A running partner can also improve safety, just in case someone gets injured.
-
Step 3
Also, do not forget to stretch before you run. 10 to 20 minutes of stretching will warm up and loosen your muscles. This will prevent a painful next morning from cramps!
-
Step 4
Set a schedule! Start off slow. With a slow start, you can build confidence and strength. Once you feel more comfortable with your new activity, lengthen the distance, increase the incline, or change up your route. This will keep things fresh and challenging.
-
Step 5
Documenting your run can also be a source of encouragement. As you see your performance improving over time, you will gain confidence and motivation as you become healthier!
