Things You'll Need:
- Borax
- Baking Soda
- Fragrant Spices (optional)
- Essential Oils (optional)
- Shaker container
-
Step 1
Mix equal parts of Baking Soda and Borax. I buy the larger boxes of Baking Soda at the Dollar General or Family Dollar stores. Sometimes I can get them at Dollar Tree too. The Borax can be found in the laundry aisle of your grocery store.
-
Step 2
If you have essential oils (optional) you want to add, mix them in slowly to the powder so it won't clump.
-
Step 3
A frugal way to add a nice scent to your carpet freshener is too look in your spice cabinet. Add a tablespoon to your powder mixture. Good spice scents are nutmeg, allspice and cinnamon.
-
Step 4
If you can find or save an empty container from a store bought carpet freshener, pour your homemade freshener in that.
I have used a clean margarine tub for this and just poked holes in the top with a screw driver so I could shake it out.
