How to Paint a Brick Exterior

Painting brick is the same as any other surface only you need a particular type of paint for that surface. You also have to be sure it is exterior paint as well.

Things You'll Need:

• Masonry Paint
• Painter's tape
• Paint roller

1. Be sure to clean any brick surface that is to be painted. Washing it with a pressure washer is always good if it is an exterior surface. Make sure all of it is dry after washing before painting.

2. Mask off any area you don't want painted with painters tape. The more time and care you take to prepare will always make for a cleaner and more precise job.

3. Use a thicker nap paint roller. 1" Nap is usually good. This allows the paint to be absorbed into a more porous surface like brick. If you want to paint without getting any paint on the grout use a paint brush.

4. Buy masonry exterior paint in the color of your choice. You can find this type of paint at any major hardware store.
