How to Frequently Change Your Desktop Background Automatically

The default configuration for the Windows desktop background provides only a single static image. While this is typically the way all operating systems are configured, Windows 7 includes a built-in method to cycle your desktop wallpaper automatically. In addition, you can adjust the frequency of this behavior to have your background change as frequently as you want. Customize these options in the desktop background settings.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the “Start” button, type “Desktop Background” in the search field and press “Enter.” This opens a “Choose your Desktop Background” window.

    • 2

Click in the “Picture location” drop-down menu and choose the directory containing your preferred backgrounds. This displays a thumbnail for each picture in the chosen directory on the “Choose your Desktop Background” screen.

    • 3

Click the “Select all” button. This tells Windows to use all of the pictures in the background and provides additional options at the bottom of the screen.

    • 4

Locate the “Change picture every” section at the bottom. Click the drop-down menu in this section and choose how frequently you want the picture to change. You can also click in the box next to “Shuffle” to tell Windows to randomize the images.

    • 5

Click the “Save Changes” button. This saves the background changes and closes the window. Changes take effect immediately.
