If you are just starting to learn how to make candles, then soy candles are the easiest candles to make. Soy candles burn longer, cooler and are clean burning without soot buildup. EcoSoya Advanced Soy Wax is the best soy wax to use. It comes in the form of flakes. It is easy to clean up with soap and hot water. This article will teach you how to make 5 jelly jar soy candles.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Scale
  • 4 Pound Pouring Pot
  • 2 Pounds Soy Flakes
  • 5, 8oz Jelly Jars
  • 5, HTP 83 Cotton Wicks
  • 2oz Fragrance Oil
  • 2 Color Chips
  • Wick Trimmer or a Small Pair of Diagonal Cutters
  • 5, Craft Popsicle Sticks w/edges cut into on both sides of stick(find in Yankee dollar stores)
  • Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
  • Metal Spoon
  • Scoop or Big Cup
  • 5, Soy Candle Warning Labels
  • 5, White or Brown Craft Labels
  1. Step 1

Place your pouring pot on the scale. Turn on the scale. Scoop two pounds of soy wax into the pouring pot.

  2. Step 2

Place your pouring pot on a stove burner. Heat on low or #2, depending on the type of stove you are using. Once soy wax has melted (about 30 minutes), shut off the burner and remove your pouring pot from the burner.

  3. Step 3

Once soy wax has melted, add two color chips of your desired color to the soy wax. Let sit in soy wax for one minute and then stir until dissolved.

  4. Step 4

While your soy wax is cooling down, get your 5 jelly jars ready. Glue your wicks to the bottom of the jars. Make sure you center the wick. Place a popsicle stick on top of each jar and press wick into edge of the popsicle stick. Make sure that the wick is centered at the top of the jar.

  5. Step 5

Once your soy wax has cooled down (about 1 1/2 hours, pouring pot will be luke warm and soy wax will look like a smooth and creamy raspberry yogurt), Pour two oonces of your desired scent(fragrance oil) into the soy wax and stir for two minutes. Then pour the soy wax into the 5 jars.

  6. Step 6

Let your candles cool for 24 hours. Once candles have cooled for 24 hours, remove the popsicle sticks. Trim wicks to about 1/2 inch. Place the warning labels on the bottom of each jar. Place the lids on the jars. Put your name of the scent on the white/brown label and place it on the side or top of the jars. Your candle is now finished.

  7. Step 7

It is now clean up time. Heat the pouring pot over burner again to heat the left over wax that is in the pouring pot. Pour left over wax into an empty jar. Do not pour down your sink drain. Wipe your pouring pot out with paper towels. Wipe all the wax out before washing your pouring pot. Wash your pouring pot out in hot water and dish liquid.
