Buttermilk Pancakes

Buttermilk pancakes are delicious, and if you combine them with whole wheat you wil add a dose of healthiness to your breakfast. Follow these directions to learn how to make light, fluffy, and healthy buttermilk pancakes.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • DRY INGREDIENTS
  • 3/4 cu whole wheat flour
  • 3/4 cu all purpose flour
  • 2 t baking powder
  • 1/2 t baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp of salt
  • WET INGREDIENTS
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cu low-fat buttermilk
  • 1/1 cu 1% milk
  • 2 tsp honey
  • COOKING ITEMS
  • butter-flavored cooking spray
  • 1 skillet
  • wire whisk
  1. Step 1

The first thing you will need to do in order to make your healthy buttermilk pancakes is to mix together all of your dry ingredients in a bowl. After you have finished combining the dry ingredients, you will want to use a wire whisk to whisk them together. This chore will take the place of sifting your flours.

  2. Step 2

The next step in preparing your buttermilk pancakes is to combine your dry ingredients. Grab a bowl and whisk them all togehter. The reaction between the buttermilk and the baking soda is what will give your buttermilk pancakes their fluffy consistency.

  3. Step 3

Finally, you will need to add your wet ingredients into the bowl of dry ingredients. Be extra-careful so that you DO NOT thouroughly mix your buttermilk pancake mixture until it is completely smooth. The lumpy texture is what you are looking for when cooking pancakes, if the mix is too smooth, your pancakes will be tough - YUCK!.

  4. Step 4

Once you you have combined your wet and dry ingredients and you have a good, lumpy texture, you will want to pour them into a skillet sprayed with a butter flavored cooking oil, and then turn them when they start to bubble. You're Done!

Tips & Warnings
  • The Whole Wheat brings a healthy touch to the buttermilk pancakes
  • Pan is a great butter-flavored cooking spray. Pam can add to the healthy factor of your buttermilk pancakes because it is fat free and calorie free.
  • Adding All-Purpose flour to the Whole Wheat flour will give your buttermilk pancakes a more tender quality.
