Make a bird House for Small Birds

Explains how to make an easy bird house.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

There are a few reasons why you would need or want a bird house in your yard.To watch the birds flying in and out of there own house,so the birds do not live in or on your house and to keep them away from your house.Below I will explain how to make a bird house out of a painters bucket.

  2. Step 2

You don't need to make the bird house out of wood.you can make the bird house out of a good sized plastic painters bucket(s) with the tops or caps to push on and with handles,if you want to hang the bird house(s).the tools you would need for this project is a drill with a 2 or 3 inch hole cutting bit drill bit,1/2 inch drill bit, drill, clean paint buckets, small can of plastic primer, paint brushes, medium grit sand paper, paint if you would like to paint the bird house,so it does not look so much like a bucket.

  3. Step 3

After you have your buckets.Get your drill with the hole cutting bit and cut 1 hole in the middle of the top and bottom of the bucket, also cut a hole in the back,so the birds have enough space below the entrance to make a birds nest and have a couple of ways to get in the house.Next get your sand paper and sand around on the inside and outside of the holes you cut to smooth out the egdes. The with a 1/2 inch drill bit, drill about 6 holes evenly spaced apart on the top of the bird house so some air can get in the bird house.

  4. Step 4

Now it is time to paint, but before you paint.Get your sand paper again and just surface scratch sand around the whole bucket so your primer paint sticks. Then get your primer and paint brush and apply some primer around the whole bucket.Let the primer dry all the way. Then you can apply the final color paint.Let this coat of paint dry,put the top back on the bucket and find a good spot in your yard for you new bird house.
