Things You'll Need

  • Door hinge or strap hinge
  • Two jar lids a little larger than a can
  • Two one-inch screws
  • Screen door handle
  • 2x4 wood
  • Drill and bit
  • Saw

      Cut two 16-inch pieces of wood from the 2x4. Lay the two pieces on a flat surface to attach the door hinge or strap hinge.

      Attach the hinge to each piece of wood with the hardware supplied with the hinge. Use a screwdriver and tighten the screws tight.

      Attach the two jar lids to each piece of wood toward the front of the wood piece opposite of the hinge side. When the lids are attached, they should line up when closed. Use a 1-inch screw to secure each lid. Use a drill to make the pilot hole in the lid after you have the lids lined up.

      Attach the door handle toward the front of the can crusher where the lids are located. You want all of your push power to be as close to the can being crushed. Use the hardware that comes with the door handle to attach it to the wood.
