Note: Before you apply it is important to know that most disability applicants are denied on their first try. Don't let this discourage you, re-apply a second or third time if necessary. -
Step 3
Apply Online
Applying online is the most convenient and hassle free way to apply for disability benefits. Log on to www.ssa.gov/disability, access the disability application , and fill in all required information.
The SSA will contact you to set up an interview to further assess the nature of your disability. -
Step 4

Apply for disability in person by going down to your local Social Security office and requesting the proper application form(s). After you fill out your application and turn it in, a interview for a later date will be set. -
Step 5
Apply Over the Phone
To apply for disability benefits over the phone, simply contact the Social Security Administration by calling 1-800-325-0778. The operator will schedule an appointment for you to apply over the phone. -
Step 6
Consider a Disability Lawyer
If you are denied, try hiring a disability lawyer. Disability lawyers specialize in getting people's disability claims approved. The only downside to hiring a lawyer is the costs and fees you will accrue.
