If you belong to two or three clubs or even more, you may find yourself struggling to keep up with all your assignments. Here's how I handle duties for my many clubs.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • tote bags
  • calendar
  • to do list

Label the bags or have each one different

Keep several tote-bags, each for carrying stuff for the different organizations you belong to. It would really mess me up if I grabbed the wrong tote as I raced out the door for ABW, FCE, KAC, WARA & TOPS Please don't call me the bag-lady! Keep all your notes and anything related to a certain club stashed in one bag ready to go.

  2. Step 2

When you get home from a meeting, immediately mark on the calendar any assignments, deadlines and events related to that club.

  3. Step 3

Put the tasks on a To Do list. It could look something like this: Get cookies for the ABW meeting, write and print copies of the minutes for the KAC meeting, call the TOPS program committee with suggested programs.

  4. Step 4

At least three days before the next meeting, review your notes to make sure you didn't overlook any assignments. That gives you a few days to prepare if you need to take action.

  5. Step 5

In January of each year, mark the calendar with the monthly and weekly meeting dates of all the clubs you belong to. That keeps these dates free for your club obligations.

  6. Step 6

Make sure you schedule time for family so they don't feel neglected as you rush off for your club meeting. Plan their meals and activities so your meetings are minimally disruptive. Get them involved whenever possible in events your clubs have.

on 9/25/2009 I love the bag idea -- or backpack on wheels in my case... or scrapbooking wheelcase ;-). Nice article. Thanks!

on 9/19/2009 It's easy to get over-scheduled. Your advice should help.

on 7/13/2009 Busy people are the ones most asked to hold an office in any club. But there does come a point when you do need to say no more or risk overload. Holding three different offices at one was my personal limit. More than three and I wouldn't be giving my best to any of them. As an avid birdwatcher I also keep a backpack filled with pencil, paper, life list, bird identification book and a set of binoculars
