How to Propagate Raspberry Plants

This is a simple way to propagate raspberry bushes. Following these steps will ensure they will spread like crazy in your garden area.

Things You'll Need

• Good Topsoil
• Raspberry plants

Instructions

1. 

   The ideal way to propagate (spread) raspberries throughout a patch is to start with a plot of good topsoil. Now we need to plant raspberry plants approximately 3 feet apart in a 5 dice pattern.

2. 

   The key to getting them to spread correctly is to let them grow for the first year. Water them and make sure they get lots of sunshine. The first year they will grow and put roots down. They will not impress you very much. The propagating comes the 2nd year.

3. 

   This year we need to carefully turn over the topsoil lightly with a rake before they start turning green. Now let nature take its course. Within 2 months your garden will be filled in with raspberry plants. Depending on how big your garden is it may be full of plants.

4. Remember the first time they produce fruit is in the second year so the amount of raspberries will be sparce until your 3rd year. In your third year we will be cutting some out because they grow so crazily.

5. Make sure to trim the tops of them before they start growing each season. I cut them back to about 3 feet tall.
