How to Make a Sailor Knot

The sailor's knot, also known as the anchor knot, is one of the easiest knots to tie. It's also very stable. The sailor's knot was originally designed to tether up a boat to the dock so the boat wouldn't escape out to the sea. The sailor's knot has a wide variety of uses because it's difficult to tangle up, but not too hard to untie.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a loop out of your first rope. You need it to cross itself; it should look like a ribbon.

    • 2

Weave your second rope through the first one. Keep the loop with the first rope, and move the second rope into the loop; pull it out on the other side.

    • 3

Make the same sort of loop you made with the other rope. Do this by taking your second rope, and threading it around the first one. After you have gone around it again, go back through the loop of the first rope, only this time go under on your way out.
