Step 1
Prepare your crib and your cat BEFORE baby comes home. Cats like cozy crib bedding but they don't like certain fabrics. Immediately after assembling the crib and dressing it up, do one of the following.
-
Step 2
Purchase white crinoline enough to cover the crib and the rails. The crinoline will be slippery on the rails AND will have an odd airy texture that your cat will not like. It won't look too horrible over your beautiful bedding but it will keep dear kitty off of it.
-
Step 3
Another ideas is to blow up approximately 10 small balloons to fill the crib. I prefer using a complementary color since they will be there a while. Stage a session to force kitty to jump into the mess of crib balloons. Kitty will remember this experience and will simply stay away.
-
Step 4
Once baby arrives, cut the crinoline to fit just the rim of the rails. Use 2-sided tape to adhere the crinalin strips. Cats tend to use the rails to guide their entry into the crib and will slip on the crinoline.
-
Step 5
If kitty has nothing but failed attempts to use baby's crib, it is highly likely kitty will not want to go into the crib where baby will be. Cats often begin to ignore baby and crib. DO REMEMBER reparation is key.

on 7/16/2009 I'll bet the balloons work great! I never minded the cats in the crib with baby though - they kept each other warm! They were older declawed cats though, wouldn't want a kitten in there.
