Instructions

The first step is to lay out your paper for your baby dress pattern. You will want to do it on a hard flat surface. I like to use the dining room table. Next you will place your baby dress onto the paper and trace around the skirt portion of the baby dress only. Fold down the upper half of the baby dress to make a line across where the skirt of the dress ends. After tracing you will want to cut it out. You will need to cut about 1/2 to 3/4 an inch away from your markings so that you have room for the inseam.

Next you will use a piece of your paper and trace the upper half of the baby dress. This will be the front. You will do the very same as step one this time using the upper half of the baby dress as your guide.

Now it is time to make a pattern for the back side of the upper half of the baby dress. You will need to do this because if you look, the back is shaped differently than the front. You will not need a second pattern for the back of the skirt because the back and front are the same.

You will want to trace the back twice. Cut both out with the same amount of extra for inseam around the edges. Next you will cut one of them in half and the other you will cut at the 3/4 point. This way you will be able to add buttons to the back of your baby dress. Place the longer side from one pattern with one of the halved sides and then discard the other two pieces.

Now you have your easy A line pattern for a nice unique baby dress. Have fun choosing your fabric's and accessories! You will have a new one of a kind dress in no time!

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure to leave room for your inseam!

  • Some people prefer to pin the paper to the dress while tracing so the dress will not slip around.

  • Wash your fabric before sewing your dress! It will shrink and may distort if you are not careful!

  • Always keep scissors away from small children!
