A lot of things are thrown away everyday that can be of good use, these items can be used to help the environment perhaps you have thought about recycling but have never tried it. You can keep all of the electrical cords from items you find, you can be paid for this and depending on the market it can pay well.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A storage container that you can place in the garage.
  1. Step 1

Open an old toaster oven and other items and take the wire out of it throw it in a box and keep it; this makes a nice rainy day fund even in the form of wire. Take it to the recycler and turn it into cash.

  2. Step 2

Aluminum can be found in cans, the tops of old gas grills, and radiators, copper too, you can keep these items in a rubber maid container that closes tightly by placing a heavy trash can liner until you collect enough. Three pounds is usually required. This may not seem like a lot of money in the beginning but it will add up.

  3. Step 3

If you find a cord that is especially heavy with copper wiring simply split it open with a small pocket knife and get the copper out it. The wiring is worth more if you separate it from the rubber; these items are not heavy and pay well.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep up with the price of copper and Aluminum on the stock market the price will go up and down. When the price of metal is especially high take your items to be recycled. A tank of gas, a trip to the Spa, or simply extra change to put aside never hurts.
  • These are metals, be careful not to cut yourself. Wear gloves, they are a lot easier to handle.
