Things You'll Need:
- a camera
- a computer
- a local newspaper
- craigslist
- a poster board that says For Sale By Owner
- a phone
-
Step 1
Buy a poster board and write For Sale By Owner on it. Then write your phone number underneath in bold letters and the cost of the car. Put the sign on your car even when you are driving around. The more you drive the more people see your car and that it runs. This makes people more confident in the purchasing of your car. This is free advertising.
-
Step 2
Next go to your local newspaper and put an article in the paper. It usually doesn't cost much, maybe a few dollars depending on how big the article is. Some papers have a budget section for anything under $500. This section is usually the cheapest to advertize in. It's the first part of the paper I look at in the Grand Rapids Press.
-
Step 3
You can also advertize on Craigslist. Most people know about this website. It's a perfect place to be noticed. I use Craigslist all the time and get alot of calls.
-
Step 4
Also you could ask a business if you could park you vehicle by the road on there parking lot. This is done quite frequently by people who are selling there car for a coule hundred to a couple thousand dollars. Some businesses ask for a deposit in exchange for using there parking lot but it's usually not much. And if they are near a busy street this is to your advantage.
-
Step 5
Make sure you tell people around you that you are selling your car. Who knows maybe a neighbor really needs a vehicle at the moment. Asking doesn't hurt and can only benefit you.
-
Step 6
If you don't need much for it, you can sell it to a junk yard. There are always people in the papers that advertize they give money for junk cars up to $1000 depending on the car.

on 10/23/2009 I would also suggest using a broker they'll restore the vehicle to top condition and help you sell the car for more money with less efforts. Plus you get to avoid the stress of trying to sell your car. And if your not in need of the vehicle they can sell through car dealerships for larger profits.
