Things You'll Need:
- Rod and Reel
- Strong line
- Fishing Tackle
- Catfish Bait
-
Step 1
Choose the right fishing rod and reel for the job. You will want a strong pole and reel that is capable of handling large weights. There are several rod and reel combos made just for cat fishing. Big catfish need big gear.
-
Step 2
Use a strong fishing line. I suggest using 50 pound test line or higher. You don't want break your line because the fish is to big. This can be very upsetting when you know you have hooked a decent sized catfish.
-
Step 3
Pick fishing tackle that is right for the job. The use of small hooks and light weights would not be an efficient choice. You want to use large hooks such as a 2/0 hook.
-
Step 4
Decide on the right bait. Stink bait works very well in attracting big catfish. Shad is another great choice. You can use shad live or cut. Large catfish have even been caught on small panfish or perch as some call them. Its been said the larger the bait the larger the fish. Now that you know a little more about the equipment used to catch big catfish go and and give it a try.
