Write a Yearly Performance Review for Your Employees

Writing year end reviews for your employees can be challenging. You do not want to discourage them but you do not want to praise them too much either.

First look at the sections you have to work with. Usually the performance evaluation is broken down into performance, maybe diversity, company goals, teamwork, etc.

Here are some tips that I use when I write evaluations for my staff. I hope they help you when it comes time to write yours.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer or access to one
  • One to Ones for each employee for the past year
  • Errors, payouts and issue logs
  • Reccommendation letters of any kind

Instructions

    • 1

Take out all personnel files for your employees for the past year. If they are paper files put them on your desk and if they are electronic files in your computer then open them up. This way you will have easy access to everything and it will go much faster for you.

    • 2

Take out your complaint log, customer service issues and any payouts for the year.

    • 3

Choose three things they accomplished during the year and three areas they need improvement. This will help you write your review.

    • 4

When I fill in each area I choose 2 good things for each bad thing. The two good things can be just meeting expectations. This way they are not too discouraged. Two good - one bad.

    • 5

Do not just cut and paste from one employee to another. Even though they are told it is private and not to be shared - THEY WILL COMPARE THEM. Take the time to change it around for each person.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't leave it for the last minute. It will look like you rushed. Take your time and do it right. You would want one written well too

  • Prepare - have their one to one history available

  • Pull out any compliments they have received as well as complaints

  • Don't forget diversity and teamwork too. These are very important

  • Having a great attitude should also be mentioned.

  • If you need help ask for it. Your boss should be able to give you guidance.
