Things You'll Need:
- Garden center or greenhouse to purchase perennials
- Gardening tools
- Some time and planning required also
-
Step 1
First find a local garden center and purchase as many Hostas you desire. If you are Lucky, someone you know may have some and be glad to split or divide there plant with you.
-
Step 2
Plant in a garden or near a house foundation. Remember proper planting separation, as some Hosta Perennials may become large. Also read the instructions for sun requirements on the plant label. Most Hosta plants require partial to full shade. Also remember to use mulch or rock for a better landscaped appearance and to retain moisture for the Hostas.
-
Step 3
Enjoy the great appearance and beauty of the Hosta. Planting them in a garden with landscape borders or near a home inside a planter box or other landscape feature, will add beauty to the landscape.
Hopefully this example will give you a good idea before planting your Hostas.

on 9/25/2009 In the Willamette valley in western Oregon, oak tree root systems need to dry out during the summer, otherwise the trees can develop root rot and the tree will eventually die. I keep our hostas around our 250 year-old oak in large pots which can be watered without soaking the soil at the base of the tree. Unfortunately, we cannot water the lawn during the summer months so the grass turns brown by midsummer and doesn't green up until the winter rains start in November.

on 7/12/2009 Hostas are such a beautiful shade-loving plant. Do you think they would grow under oak trees with lots of intertwined root system? ***** for your hosta ideas.
