How to Make a No Fringe Fleece Blanket

Throw blankets make great presents. Fleece is a synthetic fabric invented in 1985 and used widely in outdoor clothing. Fleece is celebrated for both its softness and its ability to insulate even when wet. Fleece is a great material to use to make throw blankets used in the home, on the porch swing and outdoors while camping. This tutorial will explain how to make a simple throw blanket from fleece.

Things You'll Need:

• fleece
• sewing scissors

1. 
   Select fleece.

   Select the fleece fabric you want to use and how large you want to make your throw blanket. Fleece typically sold in a fabric shop comes in 60 inch wide fabric bolts.

2. 
   Cut the fleece to size.

   Cut the fleece to the size throw blanket you desire. While there is no absolute rule for the size of blankets, there are typical sizes. The typical throw measures 60” x 80.” Since the bolt is usually 60 inches wide, measure 80 inches of your choice fleece fabric and cut evenly. Be sure to consider the pattern of the fabric when making your cuts.

3. 
   Trim edges.

   Be sure the edge is straight. Trim to even as needed.

   Enjoy!

   Your new fleece blanket is now ready to use, enjoy or give as a gift.

Tips & Warnings

• You can use this same technique to create baby blankets. While there is no absolute rule for the size of blankets, the typical baby blanket measures 36” x 44.”
• Larger blankets are more difficult to make since the typical twin blanket measures 60” x 92,” the typical queen blanket measures 90” x 90” and the typical king size blankets measure 90” x 108.” To make a larger blanket, you will need to sew together multiple pieces of fleece.
