Make a Bird Feeder
Make a Bird Feeder
Kevin Tuck, Cris DeRaud

Bird watching is a hobby that many people enjoy. Bring the birds to your front door by making a bird feeder out of a soda pop bottle.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2-liter plastic pop bottle
  • Rope or twine
  • Scissors
  • Unsharpened pencil
  • Marker
  • Bird seed
  1. Step 1

Use the marker to draw two arches on the bottle. Make the arches on the upper half of the bottle. Cut the arches out with scissors.

  2. Step 2

Push the unsharpened pencil through the bottle by cutting X's on either side of the bottle. This will be the perch for the birds so position it under the arches.

  3. Step 3

Cut a small hole in the bottle cap. Form a loop with the rope and thread it through the hole. Tie a knot in the rope so the cap will not slip off.

  4. Step 4

Slit the bottom of the bottle with the scissors. This will allow water to drain out the bottom. Don't make the slits too big or the bird seed will fall out.

  5. Step 5

Fill the bottle with bird food or bird seed up to the bottom of the arches.

  6. Step 6

Hang the feeder on a tree branch or on a hanger in front of a window. Enjoy watching all the colorful birds that will eat at your feeder.

Tips & Warnings
  • Different types of seeds will attract different types of birds so try a variety.
  • Keep binoculars and a bird identifying book within easy reach.
  • Squirrels and cats may disrupt your bird watching so hang the feeder where they aren't a threat.
