For vodka martini lovers, this recipe spells out the process. Beginning martini drinkers will also find this recipe the best.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • metal cocktail shaker
  • 2 ounce shot glass
  • dry vermouth
  • premium vodka
  • martini glass
  1. Step 1

*Fill the metal cocktail shaker half full of crushed ice.

  2. Step 2

*Fill the cocktail glass with crushed ice.

  3. Step 3

*Pour 2 ounces of premium vodka over the ice.

  4. Step 4

*Use the cap of the vermouth bottle to pour a capful of vermouth over the ice.

  5. Step 5

*Pause for about 30 seconds, long enough for some of the ice to melt.

  6. Step 6

*Cap the shaker and give five to ten vigorous shakes, hard enough to cause the ice to break into chips.

  7. Step 7

*Empty the martini glass of all the ice.

  8. Step 8

*Strain the martini into the glass. Give several hard shakes at the end so that the ice chips will cover the top of the liquid in the glass.

  9. Step 9

*Sip deeply, pulling ice chips in with the martini. Then sip remaining martini slowly, allowing the vodka flavor to roll across your palate.

  10. Step 10

*Use no addition such as olives. This recipe celebrates the taste of the vodka, not the vegetable.

Tips & Warnings
  • The best martini comes from the premium vodkas like Grey Goose and Ketel One. For a good dry vermouth, I like Martini & Rossi best.
  • If you are pregnant, you must not drink more than one of these drinks per 24 hours. If you are not pregnant, drink responsibly.
