An artificial tree can be used year after year, making it a good choice for Christmas. Whether for economy or a design choice, when buying a cheap artificial Christmas tree you will find that the branches are usually spaced far apart, making the tree see-through. Here is one way to make that artificial tree look full using a red and gold color scheme.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wide ribbon with wire borders. Start with 2 rolls red & 2 rolls gold.
  • Scissors for cutting ribbon.
  • Small Christmas tree lights.
  • Various sizes of gold ball ornaments. Can be embellished with gems or glitter.
  • Various gold tree/wreath decorations.
  1. Step 1

Wrap clean lights around the tree. For emphasis and added brightness, use two strings together.

  2. Step 2

Starting with the red ribbon, tuck the end between branches at the top of the tree. If your tree’s branches are particularly far apart, partially wrap the end of the ribbon around the trunk to hold it in position. Commence wrapping the red ribbon around the tree loosely. As you wrap force the ribbon to make shallow dips or “waves”; at the same time, add a twist or two in the ribbon with each dip. This gives a decorative touch to the ribbon. Proceed to just above the last row of branches. Depending on how much ribbon you want to buy, you can make the wraps around the tree close or far apart. However, do not make the wraps any closer than six inches apart and no further apart than 18 inches.

  3. Step 3

Cut the gold ribbon in 2 to 3 foot lengths and create bows with long streamers. Secure the ribbon-bows to the tree at the tips of branches using an ornament hook or twist-tie. Space them about two feet apart.

  4. Step 4

Hook the gold ornaments on the branches. Use large balls hooked on branches close to the trunk to help fill gabs not covered by the ribbons. Sprigs of gold ornaments can be tucked randomly on branches, twisting the wire end of sprig to secure it to the branch if necessary. The key to this theme is to use lots of mostly gold ornaments of varying shapes and design.

Tips & Warnings
  • To cut back on expenses, satin covered plastic balls can be used.
  • Pine cones sprayed gold are also an inexpensive ornament.
