How to Play Games With Dial Up Internet

Playing games on the Internet can be exciting, but only when your network is able to handle the bandwidth requirements. Dial-up is a type of Internet access that connects to the Internet via telephone lines attached to the modem of a computer and connected the the Internet Service Provider. Telephone lines carry the data from your computer in the same way they carry a voice call. Dial-up connections are the slowest way to connect to the Internet. Although they are not the best for playing online video games, there are simple steps you can take to improve your game play.

Instructions

    • 1

Shut down all running programs, especially those that consume volumes of CPU memory, such as photo and video programs.

    • 2

Launch your web browser and clear all browsing history to remove unnecessary files that require memory. Clearing browser history varies depending on the browser you are using, but for most all you do is click the "Tools" button on your browser and click "Delete browsing history."

Download a free game booster (See Resources). Game boosters add a little CPU memory to games, allowing them running smoothly.

    • 4

Update the drivers for the games you play. Update your web browser as well to ensure optimal performance.

    • 5

Uninstall programs you do not use to free-up system resources.

    • 6

Play online games during off-peak hours when there is less traffic on gaming websites. Off-peak hours are mostly during the day. Avoid late-night gaming sessions because most people are logged into game servers at these times.
