Microsoft Network is an older protocol used on Windows 95 and Windows 98 computers. Even though these operating systems are older technology, some businesses and home users have them installed on their computer. For that reason, Microsoft Network is still installed on the machines so that they can communicate with the local network. Installing Microsoft Network on a Windows 98 or Windows 95 computer only takes a few steps.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Right click "My Network" link on the desktop and select "Properties." This opens the network system properties and protocols installed on the computer. Click Configuration > Add.

  2. Step 2

Select "Client" from the Component Type dialog window. Click "Add." This opens another window with a list of available client components.

  3. Step 3

Select Client for Microsoft Networks > OK. At this point, Microsoft Network installs. Reboot the computer for changes to take effect.
