Instructions

    • 1

Roll the sheet vinyl out flat, and let it come to room temperature. Remove the base shoe molding around the perimeter of the room if applicable. If there is no base shoe molding, you can either remove the baseboard or purchase new base shoe molding to cover the edges of the vinyl at the walls.

    • 2

Measure the room wall to wall, and sketch this on the graph paper. Scale your drawing to the blocks on the paper. Position the unmovable objects accordingly as you draw.

    • 3

Transfer the sketch to the vinyl. Be as accurate as possible, paying close attention to cutouts around cabinets and door trim. If the door trim goes all the way to the floor, you may want to use a dove-tail saw to cut the trim close to the floor, allowing the vinyl to lay underneath it.

    • 4

Roll the vinyl sheet flooring into a roll that will position it against the wall where you will begin the installation. Place the roll far enough away from the starting point for you to kneel on after you install the area. Towel the floor adhesive in the area. Be certain to allow it to be tacky dry before placing the flooring on it.

    • 5

Place the vinyl on the adhesive, making sure it is at least within a 1/4 inch of the wall. Step over the vinyl flooring, and trowel enough adhesive to allow you to roll the flooring over it. Do not spread any more adhesive than you can cover before it cures. When the adhesive is ready, roll the flooring over the adhesive, then use a flooring roller on the new floor to help the adhesive to completely cover the floor.

    • 6

Repeat Step 5 until the flooring is installed. Measure and cut the base shoe molding around the perimeter of the flooring, and install it with the finish nails. Set the nail heads and fill the holes with painter's caulk.

Tips & Warnings

  • Replace the razor blade in the utility knife as needed. It will get dull after cutting the vinyl against the floor. To help the adhesive cover the entire bottom side of the flooring, use a flooring roller. Read the flooring manufacturer's instructions on the weight of the roller to use.

  • Do not use flooring adhesive without proper ventilation. Do not allow excess adhesive to dry on the surface of the flooring.
