How to Install a HP Printer on a Network

Networks make computing more convenient by allowing all devices to communicate and interact with each other. A network printer connected to a hub or router allows all computers to access and print from it. HP network printers are most easily connected via Ethernet cable.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Plug the HP network printer into your network hub or router using an Ethernet cable. Depending on the HP model and your router, you may also be able to use a USB.

  2. Step 2

    Install the HP Printer Setup CD into your computer's optical drive and follow the onscreen instructions to install the drivers and utilities.

  3. Step 3

    Click on "Start," "Control Panel," "Hardware & Sound" and "Printers."

  4. Step 4

    Click "Add a Printer" and select "Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer."

  5. Step 5

    Follow the add a printer wizard on-screen instructions to complete the HP network printer setup.

  6. Step 6

    You can also try the HP Network Printer Install Wizard (see Resources for link).

  7. Step 7

    Test the printer connection by printing a test page. Click on "Start," "Control Panel," "Hardware and Sound" and "Printers." Right-click on the network printer and click "Properties." In the "General" tab, click "Print Test Page."
