There are few things more fun than enjoying a baseball game on a summer day, but there are not many ways to ruin it worse than a foul ball to your head. Here are some tips on how to avoid getting hit by a foul ball at a baseball game.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • baseball glove
  1. Step 1

The first thing you need to do is make sure to pay attention, especially if you are along the first or third base line. These areas are very susceptible to a line drive coming straight for you, and if you are looking away during a pitch, that foul ball could come straight for you, leaving you little to no time to dodge the baseball bullet. Also, if a baseball is hit near you, surrounding fans will stand and raise their arms to catch the ball zipping at them and warn you a baseball could be on the way.

  2. Step 2

The second thing you can do is to wear a baseball glove. That way if a ball comes screaming at you, you are wearing something to either catch it for a souvenir, or to deflect it without hurting your hands or fingers. A baseball glove can be a lifesaver as opposed to using your hands or fingers to stop a baseball traveling at a high velocity.

  3. Step 3

The final way to avoid a foul ball is to pick where you sit at in the game if possible. If you sit right behind home plate, you may not see the great diving catch in centerfield, but you can see the battle between the pitcher and every batter he faces, and be protected by the large, thick net in front of you separating you from the field of play. Another way, especially if you are at a professional game, is to save yourself money and sit in the cheap seats. There is very little chance if you are 450 feet away from home plate and 100 feet up that a baseball is coming your way. And if it is, plenty of people around you can warn you by standing and holding their hands up to catch the baseball.
