Make this fun, little rattle for your baby to shake, rattle, and roll with!
The rattle is made out of felt and ribbon and easy to put together. And if something should happen to the outside of the rattle, your infant will still be unable to get to the "rattling" contents inside. Here's how to do it...

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Two 8 1/2 inch by 3 1/2 inch pieces of felt.
  • Scissors.
  • Various pieces of ribbon cut 4 inches long.
  • Pins.
  • A Sewing machine (or needle and thread).
  • A needle and thread.
  • An empty medicine bottle with a child-proof lid.
  • Lentils.
  1. Step 1

Cut your pieces of felt. Bright colors are good for your baby's eyes to develop but they say reds, blacks, and whites are all that they can see at first so you may choose to use those.

  2. Step 2
Secure the pins to the ribbon towards the middle to prevent sewing over the pins.
Secure the pins to the ribbon towards the middle to prevent sewing over the pins.

Fold your ribbons in half and pin them inside the piece of felt, like in the picture. You want the raw edges of the ribbon to be lined up with the outer edge of the felt.

  3. Step 3

Place the other piece of felt over the one that you have just finished pinning the ribbons to. Pin the two pieces together in the middle. Go around the felt with your sewing machine leaving one end open. Sew about a 1/2 of an inch from the edge to make sure that you are sewing over the ribbons. Be careful not to sew over your pins.

  4. Step 4

Turn your felt right side out from the open end. Take your medicine bottle and fill it about 1/4 the way full with lentils. Make sure the child proof lid is secured well and put it into the opening of the rattle. Sew the open end shut with a needle and thread and give it to the baby!

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep scissors and needles out of reach of children.
