How to Sauté Cabbage for a New Twist on an Old Classic
Cabbage has been used for centuries in soups and stews, or to further a meal, as it is a cheap food. Coleslaw's main ingredient is cabbage and it is also the foundation for sauerkraut. Sautéed cabbage is another delicious way to make cabbage and enjoy it as a side dish or mixed with other foods. Cabbage is a very nutritious vegetable, with a significant amount of vitamin C and various B vitamins. You'll want to sauté the cabbage with some seasoning, otherwise the vegetable will taste rather bland. A little bacon adds substantial flavor and helps keep the cabbage crisp. Things You'll Need
- 2 strips crisp bacon
- ½ tsp. caraway seed
- 1/8 cup vinegar
- ¼ cup chopped onion
- 2 tbsp. butter
- ½ tsp. salt
- 4 cups shredded cabbage
- Bowl
- Skillet
Instructions

Crumble bacon and mix with the butter.

Heat the skillet on medium heat.

Add the cabbage, onion, salt, caraway seed, 1 tbsp. vinegar and 2/3 of the bacon.

Cook the mixture, stirring occasionally for 10 minutes.

Remove the cabbage from the heat and place in a large bowl.

Toss with the remaining vinegar and bacon and serve hot.
