      ADVERTISE GARAGE SALES ONLINE

There are lots of great ways to advertise online. The more obvious ones, like Craigslist.com, are absolutely essential. However, there are other places that can help get the word out.

If your church has an online bulletin board, try there. If you have a lot of one particular type of yard sale item, look for local bulletin boards for collectors of those items. Also, if you have any antiques or high priced items, consider listing them on relevant bulletin boards.

Additionally, you can list an item of high value or popularity on eBay. List the item for the price you would hope to fetch at the garage sale, but make sure the auction ends after you plan to host your sale. In your auction listing, indicate that the item, and your other great items, may be seen in person at the sale. Just remember, whatever you are offered at your garage sale for the item, you are obligated to sell the item to an auction winner if bids exist.

      CAR SIGNS

Car signs are eye catching. Companies know this and spend a good deal of money for the opportunity to place their ads on vehicles. Why not use your own vehicle?

In the week prior to your sale, prepare some decorations for your car. Put a sign inside your car, facing out through a window, that is colorful and eye-catching. Make sure the sign tells exactly when and where the sale will be. Add balloons or any other decorations you like to draw attention to your car sign.

If you are not getting the turnout you hoped for on the day of your sale, advertise your garage sale by driving around the neighborhood. You may wish to make your car sign the same color and theme as street signs you have made so that people in moving vehicles can see the stationary, easier-to-read signs, and know it is the same sale.

      INCLUDE FREEBIES

When advertising in local journals and newspapers, consider including some freebies. Whether you are offering free lemonade or free Christmas ornaments, deal hunters are drawn to anything they don't have to pay for. Or, if you have items you don't expect to make money from, such as old books or kitchenware, mention that they are free for the taking.
