How to Clean Mildew or Mold

Even in the cleanest of houses mold and mildew can pop up. Not only is mold and mildew ugly and smelly, it can also be dangerous. Mold spores can be released in the air, causing breathing problems as well as respiratory infections. If you find mold or mildew in your home, you should remove it immediately. After cleaning the mildew and mold, contact your local mold inspector or purchase a mold detection kit from your local hardware store to make sure that it is all gone.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Bleach
• Water
• Squirt bottle
• Gloves
• Wash cloth

1. Mix 1 part bleach to 1 part water in your squirt bottle.

2. Mix the bleach solution well with either a spoon or by swirling the squirt bottle around a few times.

3. Slip on your gloves and liberally squirt the bleach mixture directly onto the mildew and mold. Allow to set for a minimum of 15 minutes.

4. Rinse away the bleach mixture with warm water and dry with your wash cloth.

5. Spray, let sit and scrub again if the mildew and mold is not removed the first time.

Tips & Warnings

• If the mildew or mold is bad, you can apply straight bleach to it.
• Never mix bleach and ammonia.
