How to Create a PI Chart
Pie charts are circular graphs used to show what percentages categories take up. These are especially useful for subjects like budgets because they can show the different percentages that a person spends on things like gas, entertainment, and food each month.

How to Make a Pie Chart
-
1
Determine the percentage of the whole each category takes up. Divide each category's total by the sum of all categories. This will give you the percentage in decimal form. For example, if you spent $50 on gas, $70 entertainment, $100 on food, and $80 on utilities, to find the percentage for the category gas, you would divide 50 by 300 and get 0.167, or 16.7 percent. Repeat this for each category.

2
Determine the number of degrees in a circle each category occupies by multiplying the decimal-form percentages by 360. For gas, multiply 0.167 times 360 to get 60.12. This means the gas slice of the pie will be 60.12 degrees wide.

Use the compass to draw a circle. Then use the ruler to draw a line from the top of the circle to the center point.
-
4
Use the protractor to draw the angles for each of the categories in the circle. The end of one category starts the next. For example, starting with the line from the top of the circle to the center as one side, draw a 60.12-degree angle for gas. Where that slice ends, start the slice for entertainment. Repeat for all categories and you are finished.
