How to Use a Hoover SteamVac

The Hoover SteamVac is an upright, self-contained carpet cleaning machine. The machine features five rotating brushes and on-board storage for a hand-held upholstery tool with an 8-foot hose. The brushes remove for easy cleanup. The SteamVac is powered by a 12-amp motor and has a 24-foot power cord. It has a storage tank for fresh cleaning solution and another for the dirty solution vacuumed up off the carpet. The tank for dirty water has an automatic shutoff when it is full. The machine is reasonably priced, depending upon the model, weighs 30 pounds and requires a small area for storage. All SteamVac uprights are operated in the same way.

• Paper towels or paper pads

Instructions

1. Remove as much furniture from the room as possible and thoroughly vacuum the carpet with your regular vacuum.

2. Fill the SteamVac's cleaning solution tank with the hottest tap water available and the recommended amount of carpet shampoo. The cleaning solution tank clicks securely into place on the handle portion of the machine.

3. Engage the scrubbing brushes by flipping the switch on the base of the machine. Some models feature two speeds for the cleaning brushes.

4. Hold the trigger down, which dispenses cleaning solution, and move the cleaner forward for your first pass. Pull the machine backward over the same area, still dispensing cleaning solution.

5. Repeat the pass forward and back over the same area, without depressing the dispensing trigger, to suction up moisture.

6. Start the next pass slightly overlapping the previous pass and repeat steps 4 and 5. Continue until the entire carpet is cleaned.

7. Run the cleaner back over the entire carpet to suction up as much water as possible. This will speed the drying time.

8. Use the handheld unit on the machine for cleaning along the baseboards, for stairs and for corners, as well as cleaning furniture and carpets in automobiles.

9. Remove the tanks from the Hoover SteamVac, thoroughly rinse them and allow them to air dry. Remove and rinse the brushes and allow to dry. Reassemble the machine and store for the next use.

Tips & Warnings

• The initial assembly of a purchased machine takes about 10 minutes. Keep the Hoover SteamVac handy to clean up wet spills or pet accidents on your carpet.

• Place paper towels or pads under the legs of furniture until the carpet is thoroughly dry to avoid rust marks.
