U.S. citizens are typically not allowed to travel to Cuba for pleasure. Many do, however, and Montreal is a major airport for such people to fly through. Having a Cuban stamp on an American passport can cause major difficulties upon re-entry to the United States. You need both a passport and a tourist card to visit Cuba. The passport must be valid for at least a week following your return to Montreal. You can get a tourist card at the airport in Montreal.
