Toaster oven broilers can become very dirty from food splatters and heavy use, especially if they are not cleaned regularly. In addition to increased risk of bacteria growing on the soiled surfaces, built-up grease can create a fire hazard. After cleaning your toaster oven broiler, let it dry completely before plugging it back into the outlet. If wet, the electric element can short out and damage the toaster oven, or create a fire hazard.
