Care for a Snowball Bush

The snowball bush (Viburnum opulus) is a white, flowering bush that blooms in the spring and summer. It can add beauty to the outside of your home, and requires little care to maintain. Snowball bushes are simple to grow, and will often survive with no outside help. However, there are always exceptions. Learn what you can do to maintain the size and shape of your snowball bush, and how to care for it in the event of a lack of water, or if the plant refuses to bloom.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Gardening shears
  • Fertilizer 0-10-10
  • Garden hose or watering can
  1. Step 1

Plant the snowball bush in full or partial sun. This plant can be planted at any time of the year. Grow it in USDA hardiness zones 4 to 9.

  2. Step 2

Trim the bush if it grows too large. This is determined by how big or small you want the bush. If you feel it takes up too much room, trim off branches at the base with gardening shears. Trim the plant after it has finished blooming for best results.

  3. Step 3

Use a 0-10-10 fertilizer around the plant if it will not bloom. Follow the instructions on the fertilizer for best results.

  4. Step 4

Water the plant unless if there is a severe drought. If the plant is looking wilted, water it with a garden hose or large watering can, once a day. Water around the base of the plant and stop when it rains.
