Though candles, especially scented ones are lovely, candle wax is not. If it happens to spill or drip onto surfaces, it can cause quite the dilemma. Wax on wood surfaces doesn't have to be a monumental problem. Though it may seem like a difficult task, it's actually easier than you may think. There are several proven methods for removing wax from wood.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hair dryer
  • Soft, clean cloth
  • Vinegar
  • Paper towel
  • Iron
  • Murphy's Oil Soap
  • Mr. Clean Magic Eraser
  • Isopropyl alcohol
  • Plastic scraper
  1. Step 1

Use a hair dryer to heat the wax. Keep the hair dryer moving over the surface until the wax is melted and wipe it away with a cloth or paper towel. Clean the area with a weak solution of one part vinegar to three parts water and polish with furniture polish to restore the shine.

  2. Step 2

Place a paper towel over the wax and iron over it with an iron set on a low setting so as not to burn the wood. As the wax heats up it will transfer to the paper towel. Wipe the area with a clean cloth dipped in Murphy's Oil Soap.

  3. Step 3

Dampen a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser with isopropyl alcohol and use it to gently scrub the wax away. Use furniture polish and a clean cloth to restore the wood's shine.

  4. Step 4

Use a hair dryer to gently heat the wax to where it is soft and use a plastic scraper or an old credit card to gently lift the wax.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be careful not to scrape too hard or use anything abrasive that may scratch the wood.
