Send the broken DS Lite directly to Nintendo for any repairs if the system is still under warranty. Opening the system or altering the hardware in any way will void its warranty and can create new problems while exaccerbating old ones.

Use a toothbrush with straight bristles to clean the system's bottom screen. Lightly hold down the touchscreen and move the toothbrush around the edges, allowing the bristles to clear away debris.

Calibrate the touch screen by starting the system with no game inserted. This will bring up the system menu. Click on the small DS Lite icon on the bottom of the screen and the yellow cross-hair icon. Touch the red boxes to complete calibration.

Use a wet cotton swab to clean the opening beneath the L and R buttons if they are unresponsive. Move the swab carefully in the openings and then dry them.
