Blackheads are from the acne family. They appear as dark spots on the skin's surface and are evidence of clogged pores. While there are a variety of prescription and over-the-counter treatments available to eliminate blackheads, you don't have to opt for chemical treatments. You can effectively get rid of blackheads with natural treatment methods. Natural treatments often are gentler on your skin and more cost-effective.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Wash your skin twice daily, using an anti-bacterial cleanser. Regular cleansing removes grime, sweat, makeup and bacteria from the skin, all of which contribute to blackheads. Choose a cleanser that is appropriate for your skin type. For example, those with oily skin should choose an oil-free cleanser designed for oily skin.

  2. Step 2

Dip a cotton ball in witch hazel and swipe it over your skin. Witch hazel is an all-natural toner, helping to stabilize oil production levels and reduce blackheads. You can find witch hazel in most drug stores.

  3. Step 3

Steam your skin. Fill a bowl with boiling water. Place a towel over your head and hold your face 8 to 12 inches from the bowl, allowing the steam to penetrate your skin for 5 to 10 minutes. The steam will penetrate your pores, helping to loosen debris from your pores. Steam your skin once to twice weekly.

  4. Step 4

Slice a lemon in half and squeeze the fresh juice onto your blackheads. Lemon juice is acidic, helping to reduce excess oil and eliminate bacteria which causes and worsens blackheads. Leave the lemon juice on your skin for at least 30 minutes for best results.

  5. Step 5

Create a paste by mixing equal parts baking soda and water. Apply the paste to your blackheads and let it work for about 20 minutes before rinsing. The baking soda will soak up excess oil and kill bacteria, helping to get rid of your blackheads naturally.

  6. Step 6

Get regular facials. There are many skincare professionals who specialize in natural skincare, using only holistic products. During facials, a skincare professional will perform extractions, helping to safely remove blackheads from your skin. Your skin also will be deeply cleansed during facials, helping to reduce the occurrences of blackheads. Talk to your skincare professional about the frequency with which you should get facials.

Tips & Warnings
  • Maintain a healthy diet. Well-balanced nutrition is essential to healthy skin.
  • Do not attempt to squeeze your blackheads. Doing so can damage your skin and cause permanent scarring.
