Use a Bluetooth Adaptor

Bluetooth adapters are special USB devices that allow a non-Bluetooth-enabled computer to sync and interact with Bluetooth devices like keyboards, headsets and printers. Using a Bluetooth adapter is fairly simple, and as long as you have the right hardware and software, you should be ready to create your own personal Bluetooth network in no time.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with USB 2.0 Port
  • Bluetooth Software

    Adding the Adaptor

  1. Step 1

Install the Bluetooth software. Each adapter has specific software that it needs to work, which is bundled with the adapter. Simply insert the CD, and a wizard should pop up that guides you through the installation process. Once the software has been installed, restart your computer and then you will be ready to start using your Bluetooth adapter.

  2. Step 2

Put the adapter in discovery mode. Open the software you just installed and find the command that says "search for devices" This will put your adapter in what is known as "discovery" mode, where it makes itself available to accept Bluetooth signals from other devices.

  3. Step 3

Sync Bluetooth-compatible devices. Now that the adapter is able to receive form links with Bluetooth devices, you will now have to put your device into broadcast mode, so that the computer can pick up on the signal. See your device's user manual for specific instructions on how to sync it with another Bluetooth device.

  4. Step 4

Manage devices. In your Bluetooth software window, you should be able to pull up a list of current links to Bluetooth accessories. Since most adapters only support 3-4 links at a time, it is very important to manage these links, and to delete one if you are going to add another and you have exceeded your limit.
