Things You'll Need:
- Mrs. Stweart's Bluing Agent (optional)
- A hydrogen peroxide-based cleaner (such as OxiClean) (optional)
- A different detergent (optional)
-
Step 1
Change detergent. Different detergents use different chemical formulas for cleaning and may be dissolved through the use of a different detergent.
-
Step 2
Use a hydrogen peroxide-based cleaner. Cleaners such as OxiClean use hydrogen peroxide which can dissolve proteins that build up on cotton fibers and attract dirt. OxiClean and similar products can dissolve these proteins over time, so you may need to soak and/or wash two or three times (without drying) for any noticeable change.
-
Step 3
Use a bluing agent. Over time, bleach leaves a yellowish color on white cotton which "dulls" the sheets. Following the directions on the bottle to pre-dilute the bluing agent and applying it to your wash as recommended can counteract the yellowing of your sheets, leaving them brighter.
