When the winter weather sets in and the snow flies, it is time to find outerwear that is fashionable and warm. A ski hat is cold-weather headgear that is suitable for skiing and many other winter activities. Ski hats made from polar fleece are warm and stylish. Instead of purchasing an expensive ready-made ski hat, anyone with minimal sewing skills can successfully make an attractive ski hat to match her winter jacket.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Measure the circumference of the head of the person for whom the ski hat is being made. Add 2 inches to this measurement.

  2. Step 2

Cut a rectangle of fleece that is the measurement from Step 1 by 12 inches.

  3. Step 3

Fold the fleece rectangle in half with the right sides facing in so that the two 12-inch sides are lined up. Sew the 12-inch sides together with a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Turn the fleece right side out.

  4. Step 4

Make a cuff along one end of the hat by folding the bottom of the fleece tube up approximately 1.5 inches.

  5. Step 5

Cut a fringe along the other end of the hat by making 2-inch cuts from the edge of the tube that are approximately 3/8-inch apart. Make these cuts all the way around the edge of the tube.

  6. Step 6

Place the hair band around the fleece and position it at the point where the fringe cuts end. Wrap the hair band around the fleece in the same fashion as you would wrap it around your hair. Wrap the hair band enough times so that it is tightly secured to the fleece to close the top of the ski cap.

  7. Step 7

Fluff out the fringe on the other side of the hair band and place the ski cap on your head.
