Instructions

  1. How to Make a Pop- Up Invitation

    • 1
      Page folded in half

Take your construction paper and fold in half horizontally, along the short axis.

    • 2
Mark where my image will end

Arrange the decorations on the inside of your card. If you are hand drawing, visualize how much space you will need. If you are cutting and pasting to the inside of your card, lay down the images, but do not glue them. Mark with a pencil how close the images are to the horizontal crease.

    • 3

Measure the pop-up image against the horizontal crease in the card where you want the image to be raised. Cut two slits, each 1/2 inch to an inch long, across the horizontal crease making sure to cut through both pages. The distance between the two slits should be smaller than the image that will pop up.

    • 4

Push the construction paper between the slits through to the inside of the card. It will form a step.

    • 5

Glue or draw the background images onto the card.

    • 6

Place glue onto the front of the step. Hold your pop-up image to the step until the glue dries.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add two or three pop-up images along the crease. Make some images bigger and some smaller to give it even more dimension.

  • Be careful not to get glue anywhere other than on the step or it will be difficult to open the card.
