How to Make a VGA into a TV
It's possible that you've looked at your computer monitor and thought "You know, it would be nice if I could use this great high-resolution display at the center of my home theater". It just so happens that using it for that very purpose is becoming more common. Computer monitors often have higher resolution capabilities than HDTV's and are generally cheaper.

Connect the video output from either the satellite or cable box into the TV tuner's "video input" slot. Depending on the hardware, you may have the option of using S-video. S-video will give you the clearest video quality if you are using a standard definition television.

Use an antenna. If you are not using cable or satellite, you can choose to connect an antenna directly into the TV tuner's "RF connection." This will allow the monitor to access basic channels.

Make sure there's an audio connection. If you are using a satellite or cable box, you will need to connect the unit's "audio out" directly into the TV tuner's audio input. If you are using an antenna through the RF connection, there's no need for a separate audio cable.

Set up additional equipment. Depending on the TV tuner's inputs, you may be able to connect additional hardware such as DVD players and video game consoles.

Connect the external TV tuner's VGA output to your monitor's VGA jack. If the monitor has built-in speakers, connect the TV tuner audio output to the monitor's audio input. If the monitor does not have built-in speakers, connect the TV tuner to external speakers (i.e. the speakers you would use for your computer).

Turn on the cable or satellite box. Use the TV tuner to find the source of your signal. If you connected via S-video, you would select S-video as your source. You will see the picture as you would normally on a television.

Tips & Warnings
Some TV tuners may not come with the appropriate cables needed to connect them. Be sure you have what you need depending on your monitor and cable set up.
Make sure that you purchase a digital TV tuner as any analog boxes will no longer work.
