How to Sand a Pool Cue
A properly aligned and sanded pool cue tip is essential to playing pool. If the tip is either sanded at an angle or not rounded enough, it could change a winning shot into a losing one. You could take your pool cue to a repair company and spend lots of money having the tip redone, or you could sand your pool cue yourself at home with a few items you likely have around the house.

1
Place a nickel on the edge of the pool cue tip to compare the shape of the tip with the rounded edge of the nickel.
-
2
See if the pool cue tip follows the roundness of the nickel. If it doesn't, you will need to sand the tip of the cue to make this shape.
-
-
3
Use a new sheet of 80-grit sandpaper. With the nickel as your guide, very gently sand the tip of the cue until it matches the same rounded shape as the nickel.
-
4
Do not over-sand the tip. If you sand the tip too low, you will not be able to play on it and have to purchase a replacement tip. Sand as little as possible.
-
5
Play pool as usual. It should be several months or even years, depending on how often you play, before you will need to re-sand your pool cue.
