In Windows XP the telnet server option is already available. However, in Windows Vista, you must enable the feature before you can use telnet. Telnet is a protocol that allows you to log on to another computer or allows friends to access yours. In addition, you can run a server or connect to other servers through the telnet protocol. A telnet server may be useful to play games or view new information.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Open the "Start Menu." Click the "Control Panel" tab.

  2. Step 2

Click, "Programs and Features." Press the "Turn Windows Features On or Off" link on the left side.

  3. Step 3

Scroll down to "Telnet Client" and "Telnet Server." Click both boxes. Press "OK."

  4. Step 4

Let Windows Vista configure the features. Depending on your computer, the process is roughly three minutes.
