prevent and Treat Insect Bites

Summer is a joy, until those pesky little sects come out and start attacking. Don't let the insects take away the pleasures summer brings to you, instead fight back with these tips!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    USE NATURAL ESSENTIAL OILS

Studies have shown that mosquito's and some other pesky insects do not like the scent of peppermint, geranium, and other oils. When you apply a little it can ward them off for about 90 minutes or so. You can buy all natural products or just place a few of these essential oils onto you. Bug Bam or Bug Band offer wrist-bands that are natural and work great.

  2. Step 2

    USE SOYBEAN BASED REPELLENTS -

There is a great product for children and even adults with soybean as the active ingredient. Bite Blocker is a great one for children that I have tried and was good at repelling mosquito' s.

  3. Step 3

GET RID OF STANDING WATER -

You should walk around your home and look for any places where mosquito' s or other insects may be laying their eggs. They lay their eggs in standing water, and believe me it does not take much water! Look for any places water is sitting around your yard and discard of the water right away. Common places water stands are gutters, bird baths, ponds, water falls, etc. If you have a bird bath just replace the water twice a week to control this from happening.

  4. Step 4

    WEAR WHITE -

Whenever possible wear white or other light clothing when outdoors. Mosquito's and other insects seem to love bright or dark colors so they will be less attacked to you if you are wearing white. Even if you do wear white they may still be attracted to you, so you should still wear some repellent or wear long pants and long sleeves to cover up as much as possible.

  5. Step 5

    STOP THE ITCHING -

If you do get bite and you do not have any hydrocortisone cream on hand then use this simple trick to stop the itch.
Mix together a large spoonful of baking soda and enough water to form a pasty consistency. Then place the paste onto the bite. Leave it on for awhile until the itching stops. You can also rub the bite with an ice cube to help control the itching.
