How to Make Bananas Ripen Faster thumbnail
Bananas need a little help from apples to ripen quickly.

Although you would certainly not want to spoil a perfectly good banana that you plan on eating as it is, there are recipes that call for ripened or spoiled bananas. One such recipe is banana bread, which calls for "well ripened" bananas. There are several different things that you can do to help speed the process of ripening a banana. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the bananas under warm, running water in the sink, then dry them off.

    • 2

Place the banana in a paper bag, the kind used by grocery stores. Add an apple to the bag, then tie it or clip the bag to keep air out.

    • 3

Leave the fruit out over night. The apple will send out a gas that helps accelerate the ripening process of fruits like bananas. Repeat the procedure for a second night if the bananas are still not as ripe as you want them.
